about

This album is, for me, a snapshot of a place and time I hold very dear: Sacramento, California in the early Nineties.
There was a lot of creative music happening then and I was fortunate to be in the company of musicians who I greatly admired (and still do).
Known then as BUB, we played free improvisation on Thursday nights at Old Ironsides. Players came and went but the line-up here really clicked and we played many gigs together.

This music was written especially for Tony, Clark, Chuck, Dennis and Gene. We played it in public only once (at Old I) to prepare for the recording. And the session itself happened just at the right time; Gene moved away soon afterward and a new chapter began for all of us.

I’m grateful I get to revisit this time, place and friends.
I hope you enjoy it, too!

Review:

“A jazz outing from a member of sandbox trio. Fairly easygoing stuff with nicely complex, creative writing. The band is led by Panasenko on guitar and features two saxophones.
Accessible overall, despite its avant-jazz leanings. You could almost see this band playing in a dinner club, although the songs are a bit more cerebral than that.”
